Nana-Aisha El-yakub

My name is Nana Aisha El-Yakub, and I am a 22-year-old Human Nutrition and Dietetics graduate from 

Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, in Ekiti State, Nigeria.
Upon graduation, I began the one-year compulsory youth service program, where I was assigned to the FCT public health department. I was excited because I had always wanted to experience public health practices, and my experience has increased my desire to pursue a postgraduate degree in public health. 

I've also kept myself active by volunteering with several NGOs in various sectors and roles. This has enhanced my organizational abilities, communication skills, delivering results, and integrating innovation into task performance.

I am currently running a three-month internship program with a child rights advocacy organization, where we focus on mentoring young girls in schools to improve their confidence, and encourage them to select a career, particularly in STEM.

 

My drive to advance and improve in my profession motivates me to work effectively, learn quickly, and work with minimum supervision in an environment that tests my talents. I also bring skills learned from previous employment.

Since graduation, I've kept myself active by volunteering with several NGOs in a variety of sectors and jobs, as well as doing online certification courses.
As a supervisor in one of those roles, I was responsible for managing a team of 10 data collectors, ensuring that proper data is collected and entered, engaging community stakeholders for acceptable community entry, and submitting a monthly report to my manager. This role improved my dexterity at work, confidence for public speaking, teamwork, report writing, multi-tasking, and working with minimal supervision.

I have also volunteered with various organizations, assisting with sensitizations and campaigns, daily office management, work plan development, activity budget development, and check-listing activity supply and distributions. This has improved my organizational skills, administrative management skills, communication skills, and ability to deliver results while infusing innovation into task execution.
 

I earned a bachelor's degree in human nutrition and dietetics from Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. I graduated in 2021 with a second-class upper division and as the class's top graduating student.
