    Description

    In Nigeria, the UN works with the government and the people to implement its development priorities towards achievement of sustainable development and to promote peace and human rights.

    The work is guided by global, regional, and national development and normative frameworks to which Nigeria is signatory to, including the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.

    To support this work successfully, the UN RCO in Nigeria intends to engage qualified professionals to support the reimagination of its support to the acceleration and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through integration of community voices, ideas and action as informed by context, leaving no one behind.

    The core capacity will include expertise in coordination and strategic planning, economics, tailored policy support, results monitoring and evaluation, and strategic partnerships, plus a robust standing communications capacity within the United Nations country team, among others.

    This post is additional support required to enhance the communication strength available to the Resident Coordinator.

    The position is in the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Nigeria.

    Under the direct supervision of the Head of the RCO, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
    I. Proof reading/ Editing of documents in English;
    II. Suggesting correct terminology and titles of the reports, presentations, brochures etc.;
    III. Draft press releases, statements and other materials for mass media consumption;
    IV. Draft talking points for the media engagements of the UN Resident Coordinator;
    V. Draft speeches for the UN Resident Coordinator;
    VI. Develop core messages and outline talking points for speechwriting assignments, Flesh these out into full speeches once approved;
    VII. Research, collate and validate information to be used for all speeches;
    VIII. If needed, prepare slide presentations (PowerPoint) to support key speeches;
    IX. Prepare talking points for media interviews, special content for physical and online publications;
    X. Perform other duties as required.

    III. Communicating and cooperating with governmental, non-governmental, donors and private agencies is an asset.


    Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria located in the centre of the country within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    It is a planned city and was built mainly in the 1980s, replacing the country's most populous city of Lagos as the capital on 12 December 1991.

    As of 2015, the city is experiencing an annual growth of at least 35%, retaining its position as the fastest-growing city on the African continent and one of the fastest-growing in the world.

    The city can be accessed by Air, Road or Rail. Abuja is housed by many expatriate and diplomatic communities.

    Cost of living in Abuja varies but could be termed as high considering the class of people residing in the city.

    Terrorism is the main threat in the Abuja. General crime is also prevalent. UN staff members are advised to stay only in UNDSS assessed hotels and residential areas.
