About Theophilus Amakiri:
I am a HCPC registered biomedical scientist seeking opportunities where I can add value in delivering standard care to patients by working with enthusiasm and confidence adhering to good clinical laboratory practices (GCLP), national policies and guidelines. I have an 8 years working experience as a biomedical scientist. I desire to make great impact in global healthcare by partaking in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and prevention of diseases. I am looking out for a dynamic and challenging opportunity alongside growth and prospects.
Experience
I am good with the use of Microsoft office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), hospital management software and basic maintenance of laboratory machines. I hold a current drivers license for use within Nigeria which I obtained in April, 2007. As a hard working biomedical scientist, I have been able to develop my skills diversely. I thus know I will make an excellent contribution to your team and am also prepared to further develop my skills as a professional.
My experience as a locum biomedical scientist in the Nigerian L.N.G residential area industrial hospital laboratory has been a very impactful one as all the scientists working in the laboratory are assigned to different benches on a monthly rotational basis. This helped in improving my efficiency on all the benches in the laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with fully automated machines like COBAS C111 for chemistry analysis, DXH500 (Beckman coulter) for full blood count, Act5 (Beckman coulter) for full blood count, Biomerieux Mini vidas for hormonal assays and viral load determination. Some points of care machines like ISTAT for electrolyte assays and cardiac markers, Coagucheck for PT/INR and am conversant with the use of all these machines. Daily maintenance is carried out on all our laboratory machines followed by the running of quality control (QC) samples on a daily basis before samples are analyzed. When there is an error in any laboratory equipment, trouble shooting is done to detect the cause of the error so as to solve the problem. I am used to both manual and automated systems for microbiology, the use and preparation of different types of culture media, storage and transport of microbiology specimen and my skill in microscopy is second to none. I am well trained in molecular diagnostics, analysis of patient sample with the use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the management of molecular laboratory machines, patient data management and management of laboratory consumables. Our laboratory results go through proper verification so as to ensure accurate results are given out to our clients through their physicians using our hospital management software (HMS). Our laboratory participates in the United Kingdom Quality Assessment scheme (UKQAS) for clinical chemistry, General Haematology and parasitology. This is to ensure that the quality of results produced by us meets the required standard.
I have been trained in the following areas; HSE Levels 1(health and safety at work), HSE level 2 (Fire safety and risk assessment), HSE level 3(environmental awareness and management), Basic life support (BLS), Good clinical practice, Good laboratory practice. I have good knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 (Quality management system) and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (Laboratory management system)
I am self motivated, a great communicator, an organizer, a team player, dependable, patient and I have the ability to give and receive feedback. I am also skilled in the use of Microsoft applications like excel, power point, Microsoft word and our hospital management system software (H.M.S). I work hard to beat deadlines when carrying out a task and I ensure the task is carried out properly. I have the ability to read, understand and follow standard operating procedures and I can carry out my work without supervision.
With the passion and love I have for biomedical science, working with your organization will mean so much to me and in turn I will bring the best of professionalism, commitment, with positive attitude to work while making sure I integrate properly into your trust core values.
I am looking forward to career development and progression if I am given an opportunity to work with your organization. I am willing to learn more, to participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities including IBMS specialist portfolio.
Education
I have a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science from the University of Science and Technology, port harcourt in Nigeria.
