Experience

International Rescue Committee Damaturu Yobe State.                              July 2021 to July 2022

Position: Women Protection and Empowerment PSS Officer.

 Responsibilities

  • Ensured and supervised psychosocial support activities in the safe space.
  •  Facilitated women emotional support group in the women and girl’s safe space.
  • In collaboration with WPE Case workers, identified economic and psychosocial needs of women and girls and share information with WPE Manager to support these needs.
  • Took the lead in the implementation of the Women Rise Curriculum in Yobe State.

 Responsibilities;

  • Provided direct support and care for adult and child survivors of gender-based violence, including counseling and basic case management
  • Provided physical accompaniment to GBV survivors if requested to access medical and other services according to their wishes, choices and decisions
  • Conducted direct and regular follow up of GBV survivors through home visits and based on survivors wishes and consent
  • Conducted direct follow up of GBV survivors through home visits and regular follow up visits based on survivors’ wishes and consent.
  • Ensured proper documentation of reported GBV incidences through utilization of GBVIMS case intake, action, follow up and other case management forms appropriately.
  • Provided physical accompaniment to survivors of GBV to access other services in accordance with their wishes, choices and decisions
  • Followed GBV guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, and safety/security and non- discrimination while providing services to women and girls.
  • Monitored how the GBV referral pathway is working through making direct follow ups with other organizations that are providing services to survivors.
  • Conducted and helped planed and organized psychosocial/ group support activities with women and adolescent girls to meet the emotional needs of survivors, build support networks among women/girls, and promote social integration of survivors and other vulnerable women.
  • Worked with women and girls in the community to identify their needs, interests and priorities, and where possible, adapt activities according to these to ensure activities offered are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of women and girls.

Position: GBV Case Worker

Responsibilities

  • Successfully case managed women and girls who are GBV survivors and build their resilience, adhering to confidentiality principle.
  • Successfully carried out psychosocial activities with GBV survivors (women and girls) examples counselling, outdoor and indoor games, storytelling, singing and dancing, creative painting and drawing.
  • Carried out counselling session with GBVsurvivors following survivor centered approach.
  • Ensured that psychosocial approach/perspective was employed in all work activities and decisions and that these reflect the priorities and best interests of women and girls being assisted.
