Muhammad Aliyu Mustapha

I’m a journalist, broadcaster, communication specialist and linguist with predisposition in Radio, digital and multi-media genres. My foremost career goal is to help societal growth and development through my professional expertise and involvement. As a result-oriented team player, I’m focused on desired outcome. 

I am a graduate of Mass Communications; I am currently doing a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in the same field, with the National Open University of Nigeria.

I have been working with Radio Gotel, Yola, a private radio station in Yola, Adamawa state capital, for the past fourteen years, rising through the ranks to become an Assistant Director, Editorial.

As a journalist, I have flair for writing and presentation, in that I am a certified Professional Speech writer and Event Manager, having undergone a professional course, with a reputable Institute in Yola, Adamawa state.

I also attended several training sessions by recognized organizations, including the BBC Media Action, the News Agency of Nigeria, the Daily Trust Newspaper and Reuters on various aspects of writing, journalism, rural affairs reporting and broadcast contents production.

Consequently, I have admirable written and oral communication skills. I speak English and Hausa Languages fluently.

Additionally, I am ready to work in a team towards achieving the desired goals.

2020 – 2022

1. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, EDITORIAL, GOTEL COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED

As a management staff, I superintend the entire editorial architecture of the station, with all the editors under my control and direct supervision. 

2017 – 2019 

1. MANAGER TRANSLATIONS, GOTEL COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED

I oversaw the translations unit. I gave directives as to what the translations policy of the station should be.

2016– 2017

      3. MANAGER CURRENT AFFAIRS, GOTEL COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED

I run the current affairs unit, with minimal supervision from the assistant director news and current affairs. I saw to the professional production and presentation of all current affairs programmes.

2015– 2016

      4. MANAGER NEWS, GOTEL COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED

I was in charge of news unit, reporting to assistant director editorial. I masterminded the production of the main bulletin and news updates. All reporters reported to my desk.

2011– 2015

     5. PRINCIPAL CURRENT AFFAIR OFFICER, GOTEL COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED

I undertook the tasks assigned to me by the manager, current affairs. I assisted the Manager Current affairs in running the affairs of the unit and accepted any other responsibility I was assigned.

 2008– 2011

     6. SENIOR CURRENT AFFAIRS OFFICER/ REPORTER/ TRANSLATOR/ NEWS EDITOR, GOTEL COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED

I carried out the responsibilities assigned to me by the manager, current affairs. I worked with the Principal Current Affairs officer in helping the manager run the affairs of the unit successfully.

   7. CHIEF CORRESPONDENT, ADAMAWA/TARABA, (FREELANCE), NEW NIGERIAN COMPASS NEWSPAPER

I was responsible for reporting all major happenings and events in both Adamawa and Taraba states. I reported to the editor-in-chief, who based in Abuja.

   8. CHIEF CORRESPONDENT, ADAMAWA,(FREELANCE) DW HAUSA SERVICE

I was responsible for initiating story ideas, conducting interviews, writing and voicing reports from Adamawa state and sent them via the internet to the DW headquarters in Bonn, Germany.

As an artiste presenter, I was saddled with the responsibility of news casting in English.

I conducted interviews and wrote news stories.

11. PRINCIPAL EDUCATION OFFICER, SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL SCHOOLS BOARD, KANO STATE.

I was deployed to Government Technical College, Bagauda as a teacher of English Language. In addition to teaching, I was responsible for organizing such Extra-curricular activities as debate, quiz and other education support programmes among students.
