Misconception of feminism

What is feminism and how did it develop?

Feminism was coined in the year 1837 by french philosopher, Charles furier.
Mary Wollstonecraft (1792) in her work ''A Vindication of the right of women.
This implies that the movement as been in existences before the name was derived.
The origin of feminism was originated from the French word 'feminin' coming from a Latin word 'femina' meaning woman and -isme comes from the Latin suffix- ismus, which makes a noun into a practice,system or doctrine.
Feminism is a diverse and evolving movement,with various perspectives, critiquesing the traditional male domination in the field of international relations, it's analysis gender inequality,imbalance in global politics.
Feminism is different from matriarchy/matriarchism this is the modern misconception.
 Types and approaches of feminism
Liberal feminism:It focuses on achieving gender equality through legal and political reforms, they advocate for equal right under the protection of the law.
Radical feminism:Aims to challenge and dismantle the root causes of gender in equality and patriarchy.
Marxist feminism: Gender oppression intersects with class oppression; capitalism perpetuation.
Post colonial feminism; In is self explanatory,it is a feminist approach that evolve after the colonial era.
Intersectional feminism: Inter connectedness in social identities such as race ,class .
Ecoeminism:Gender inequality and environmental degredation.

- Intersectionality: It address inequality with individual with multiple identity.
- Critical theory : underlying power dynamic that perpetuate gender in equality.
- Empirical research: qualitative interview, ethnographic reaserch ,quantitative- statistical analysis.
- Actusm: challenges existing power structure and promote gender equality.
       Major theorist in the conceptualisation of feminism.
Simone de Beauvoir; ' The second sex' is the fundamental text in feminist philosophy.
Judith Butler; Performativity, ' gender' is not biologically determined but is constructed through social and cultural practices 
Bell hooks; Intersectional approach,which emphasize the interconnectedness of gender, raceclass other social identity.
Martha Nussbaum: capability approach,she argues that gender equality should be measured by individual's capability instead on focusing on equal right or opportunity.
Simone weil: Approach is oppression ,need for solidarity.
                    Waves of feminism 
First wave :( 19 century ) ,advocacy for women's right to vote, own property ,access education,notable figure include suffragette like Susan B. Anthony.
Second wave: ( 1960- 1980 ) reproductive right,workplace discrimination.Betty Friedan,Bell Hooks.
Third wave : ( 1990) : Intersectionality,Judith Butter.
Fourth wave: 2010 social media and online harassment.
