    Job Description

    The Junior GESI Expert will be expected to participate actively in the development of multi country GESI action plan, under the supervision of the Multi Country GESI Expert, and to work with and empower capacities of a wide selection of national and local partners. The Countries Junior GESI Experts will also play a critical role in mainstreaming GESI considerations at local and national levels in all components of the project. Considering power differences, they will be responsible for improving access to public decision making, for supporting women and youth entrepreneurship and understanding specific group exclusion.

    Knowledge of gender, socio-economic and conflict dynamics in different geographic locations across Nigeria will be essential to understand how gender inequality and social exclusion of specific group impact access and availability to Soil Fertility. Providing advisory and product design on how these can be addressed in practical terms, and working with national government, partners, and local stakeholders will be crucial.

    Key Responsibilities

    Gender Equality

    • Collect data for an advanced analysis of the target areas with a view to identifying gender norms and the root causes of existing inequalities among male and female farmers and pastoralists regarding their access to / control over natural resources, land tenure, inputs, market, marketing with respect to soil fertility.
    • Contribute to the formulation of a GESI implementation strategy and, implements robust processes and standardize procedures to address the negative influence of social norms that limit access to/control over productive resources by specific groups.
    • Identify capacity-building needs and modalities in terms of gender equality at all levels of the national project team and implementing partners.
    • Conduct new training modules required for capacity building, including power, equality, unconscious bias, positive masculinity, and female leadership.
    • Monitor gender equality indicators and all gender-age disaggregated project indicators.

    Social Inclusion

    • Collect data for an advanced analysis of target areas with a view to identifying potential social divisions, factors and policies that may lead to social exclusion and conflict, while paying attention to elements that can strengthen social inclusion and conflict prevention.
    • Implement solid processes and standardize procedures for a systemic analysis of social exclusion and conflicts specifically involving women, young, disabled people and pastoralist.
    • Train consortium staff and implementing partners to sustainably integrate the "Do no Harm" principles as well as social inclusion and conflict-sensitive approaches into the strategic planning, programming, and implementation of project operations.
    • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data on social inclusion and conflict to improve the planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation system of the project, based on the best practices and donor standards.
    • Contribute to the development of knowledge on social inclusion and conflict sensitivity.

    Qualifications

    • University Degree, preferably Licence or Master level, in the field of development, gender, economics, social sciences, or related studies.
    • At least 3 years and above experience in providing technical assistance in Gender Equality, Social Inclusion, Conflict sensitivity, or Community Engagement.
    • Proven experience in conducting training in a cross-cultural setting.
    • Experience coaching partners delivering implementing programme workplans. Proven ability to build strong collaborative, coaching and capacity-building partnerships.
    • Experience of working at local level with elected representatives and associations, etc.
    • Strong understanding of the local context, politics and GESI dynamics Northern regions of Nigeria.
    • Experience in GESI project monitoring and evaluation.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Ability to travel frequently in the project operational areas – approx. 50%
