  • To ensure product is materials/available for user/clients and customers.
  • Providing an acceptable customer service level in terms of quality and order fill rate;
  • Forecasting inventory requirement to avoid overstocking, whilst avoiding a delay in production; 
  • Balancing stockholding costs with the required service levels by; Setting up minimum stock levels, applying appropriate replenishment systems, negotiating shorter lead times with suppliers, Reducing variability of lead times amongst suppliers and between depots, Stock classification, Control of redundant and obsolete stocks.
  • Ensure non-disruptions to the smooth flow of operations by holding safety stock as insurance
  • Keeping maintenance, repairs and operations inventory like spare parts, oils, lubricants, office supplies etc, which are not sold but kept to ensure smooth operation of the organization.
  • Using Bar Codes and Scanners for product identification, container identification, location identification, equipment identification, document identification etc.
  • Ensuring that inventories are justified and minimised with the target being zero inventory
  • Ensure Staff training and motivating to identify correctly, locate and

count all inventory correctly.                                                        

  • Ensure Safety stock were only held to protect variable demand to give

customer service or against variable supply.

  • Ensuring that orders are only placed when a stock-out is anticipated. 
  • Ensuring that re-ordered quantity are just enough to cover demand, until the next receipt is due. 
  • Ensuring that focus efforts are on the few important items. 
  • Identify the different varieties of stock items in terms of value, weight, usage, criticality etc and the types of stock in order to implement an appropriate method of stock control
  • Coordinating with other functions like warehouse operations, distribution, and suppliers such that our performance targets will included customer service, inventory levels and operating costs.
  • Determine best methods of issuing stocks; FIFO, LILO, Weighted Average etc.
  • Determine best method of material handling; manual handling, manually operated trucks and trolleys, powered trucks and tractors, operator controlled and driven, powered trucks and trolleys, driverless, computer controlled, Crane systems etc.
  • Determine best material Handling Equipment best on technical specifications, purpose for which the equipment is being bought-indoor or outdoor loading or racking, flexibility of use, goods to be moved, service and maintenance issues, standardization issues so as to reduce cost of holding spares, life cycle rating, reliability and durability, fuel type, cost and consumption rates, safety and environmental consideration, software compatibility with warehouse management systems, Maximum lifting height.
  • Determine best Storage Equipment – Racking and Shelving; Adjustable Pallet Racking(APR), Drive in Racking (DIR), Live Powered Mobile Racking (PMR).
  • selecting best racking equipment based on; Pallet (or storage unit of the product being stored) Size, Type, Construction, Capacity, Security, Stability.
  • Determine and Select Storage area based on Dimensions, Type and construction, Floor loading, Capacity, Obstructions, Exits, stairs, Floor fixing facilities, Goods, Type, Frequency of movement, Frequency of access, 
  • Determination and Selection of best Safety Equipment; Fire protection requirements, Fire exits etc. 
  • Ensure proper grouping of Products groups based on their characteristics for easy handling; 
  • Ensuring that all chemical packaging is in good condition and that appropriate Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) is provided.

Follow up on bids.
