About Gilead Tsekwi:

Dr. Gilead Tsekwi, B.Sc. (Business Administration), M.Sc, (Disaster Risk Management), and a Certified Management Specialist with London Graduate School was born in the Taraba State of Nigeria.  He has worked in emergency and post-emergency operations for government and international NGOs in areas considered as high risk for over ten years. Most recently, he worked as the Emergency Response Manager in Northwest and Southwest Regions for Plan International Cameroon where he successfully managed projects targeting crisis-affected populations in International Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps and host communities around the region. He has a strong ability to act as a team player and team leader while working with multidimensional teams. He is a calm, flexible, and result-oriented individual with a high appetite for organizational excellence. His managerial experience obtained throughout the years of challenging diplomatic and humanitarian works developed his ability to make high-level effective and well-balanced management decisions. He is particularly experienced in project team management, supply chain/logistics management, and security management. He communicates fluently in English, Pidgin English, Hausa, and basic French.

Key Results and/or Achievements  

  1. Provided strategic leadership in all areas of emergency programming and strengthen the Emergency Response Team (ERT) overall capacity to be prepared and respond to any expansion or extension of the NW-SW socio-political crisis in accordance with accepted principles and practices
  2. Provided quality and effectiveness of Plan International’s emergency response in WASH, Health, Education, Protection (CP and GBV), and Economic Development, and was responsible and accountable for developing, coordinating, and managing all emergency activities relating to the response to the NW-SW socio-political crisis.
  3. Ensured the security and well-being of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) by organizing quarterly staff well-being sessions and providing one-on-one counseling session 
  4. Conducted access negotiations and provide security clearance and briefings to staff prior to field missions, with a keen focus on women in security 
  5. As a member of the Cameroon Country Senior Leadership Team (CLT), actively contributed to the overall governance of the country office, and the delivery of its strategic and annual operating plan.
  6. Coordinated and managed multiple grants from SIDA, UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNFPA, GAC, START-Fund Networks, ECW, and sponsorships with an operation Portfolio of about 4.6 US Dollars   
  7. Raised the organizational profile through quality program implementation, which strengthened community acceptance, built donors’ trust, and other relevant partners
  8. Established community-based structures for effective and efficient program implementation throughout the project phases, and introduced community-lead programing in program modules which increased Plan’s access to hard-to-reach areas  
  9. Development of quality proposals that were gender transformative and in alignment with the Plan International Global ambition and Country Strategy of “Girls standing strong creating global change” 
  10. Shared quality Sitreps every month with applicable donors and national offices (NOs) capturing key achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and opportunities for new interventions in the Northwest/South West Emergency Response.
