B. S. Ogundare

I am a Mathematics Lecturer with specialty in Differential equations and nonlinear analysis. My accumulated experience and expertise in teaching and research in Mathematics in Tertiary Institution over the past two decades as well as my quest to widen the scope of my academic relevance is a great motivation to be available and be of service where my expertise will be required.

Presently, I am a Reader in the Department of Mathematics of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria 

I possessed B. Sc. (Hons), M. Sc. and PhD Degrees in Mathematics from Ogun State University, Ago – Iwoye, Nigeria (1995), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria (2003) and University of Fort Hare, Alice South Africa (2010) respectively.  

I have been an academic staff in Tertiary Institution for over 2 decades where I rose from the cadre of Graduate Assistant to my present cadre and have been involved in Teaching, Research and community services. My teaching cuts across levels of undergraduate courses to specialize postgraduate courses in Differential Equations as well as Numerical Analysis.

I have demonstrated substantial level of scholarship by reporting my research finding and contributions in reputable journals in the field of Mathematics. To date, I have Forty-Five (45) published articles in reputable journals asides from referred conference proceedings.

I have also successfully supervised students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. So far seven (7) candidates had successfully defended their M. Sc. and their certificates awarded under my supervision and one (1) PhD candidate was also produced under me as a co-supervisor. 

Administratively, I have also served in various committees and held position of responsibilities both at the Departmental level, Faculty level as well as the University level. 

My research focus is on the qualitative properties of solutions of higher order nonlinear differential equations (with or without delay) as well as on the numerical solutions of initial and boundary value problems of differential equations. 

Lyapunov’s Second (or Direct) Method is the major tool employed to establish the properties identified above. This method involves the construction of a special function having properties that the function (called Lyapunov Function) is at least positive semi-definite with a negative semi-definite derivative along the solution trajectories. It has been a challenging task using the Lyapunov’s Second Method; this is due to the difficulty in obtaining a suitable function for the higher order equations. As a major accomplishment, suitable Lyapunov functions for nonlinear equations of orders up to five have been constructed successfully and these had been used to discuss the qualitative properties of solution of some nonlinear differential equations.

On the numerical solutions of differential equations, interest is in developing numerical algorithm to approximate solutions of certain Initial Value Problems (IVP) and Boundary Value Problems for higher order differential equations. Success has been made in developing algorithms which have been found useful by researchers in the field. These schemes are found to compete favorably with known schemes for the class of problems considered.

We have successfully presented some of these results for intellectual scrutiny before experts in the field both within and outside the country through conferences, workshops and seminars. The abstract of our published papers have been indexed in the American Mathematical Reviews in the U.S., Zentralblatt fur Mathematik in Europe and Scopus to mention the standard indexing bodies. 

I hold Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.), Master of Science (M. Sc.) and a Doctoral degree in Mathematics of the Ogun State University, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Fort Hare in 1995, 2003 and 2010 respectively.
