Experience

I am a competent Physiotherapist with over 4 years work experience post graduation from one of the most prestigious universities in Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife with an accredited program in physiotherapy where I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy. I was engaged in a one-year internship program at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, As a band 5 rotational physiotherapist, seeing an average of 10-15 patients daily comprising of adults and children in both inpatient and outpatient setting rotating every 4 months across Community, intermediate care team, Musculoskeletal, Neurology, Respiratory and Intensive care, and Paediatric units. During this time, I was able to effectively discharge my on-call and weekend duty effectively especially handling respiratory conditions such as intensive care unit patients with COPD, bronchitis, lungs consolidation etc. I was also able to manage and prioritize my patient caseloads effectively acting independently, organize exercise classes for the older adults and elderly improving on their balance, mobility and cardiovascular status to ensure healthy living amidst fall prevention, adhered by the hospital policy while providing high standard of physiotherapy care.

I am a passionate, goal driven physiotherapist committed to delivering quality health-care services with an emphasis on safety, clinical effectiveness and patient/client centeredness in accordance with the Health care professional council (HCPC) and Chartered society of physiotherapy (CSP) profession’s ethics and standard of practice. I adhere absolutely with my employer’s vison, values and strategies. I am a Friendly, Emphatic, Excellent, Professional and Respectful Physiotherapist with a great sense of humor ready to take huge responsibilities. I will abide by the Trust values, strategies and regulations in delivering the best services to improve the overall outlook of the Trust through my personal ethos that support equality and diversity, Safeguarding vulnerable population, sustainability, improving patient's experience, innovation and quality, performance management, confidentiality and abiding by infection prevention and control policies and other local policies or agreed ways of working of this Trust.

Since graduation from physiotherapy college, I have had experience both in Government-Owned Hospitals and Private rehabilitation clinics and in various aspects/units of physiotherapy and patient care. These include: patient assessment, explaining diagnosis and treatment plans to patients and preparing them both physically and mentally by reassuring them, ensuring that each treatment procedure and plan is properly understood by both patient and carer thereby encouraging active participation and improving effectiveness. Ensuring proper documentation, management and protection of patient information/data knowing that patient privacy is paramount. Also regular consultation and partnerships with the multidisciplinary team in order to take a holistic approach in decision making.

Also I have participated actively in some administrative functions of the my department: I helped prepare the Departmental Call Roaster and worked closely with my superiors in producing and reviewing the department budget and also actively participate in Organizational Strategic meetings, training students during clinical postings and graduates for internship programs. Therefore, I learned to effectively prioritize patients. I also had the experience of working effectively within several multidisciplinary team (MDT) as I discharged my duties while relating with Physiotherapy staff, doctors, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers and other professionals involved in patient's care.

My experience as a senior physiotherapist at General Amadi Rimi Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina state during a one-year mandatory national youth service program exposes me to dealing with patients of difference background(religion and ethnicity) and also gave me opportunity manage more of elderly patients in intermediate care unit, neurology, musculoskeletal conditions and community physiotherapy such as Falls and frailty, Fractures, Cerebro-Vascular Accident (CVA), Joint arthroplasty,  Parkisnson disesase, Head injury, Multiple sclerosis and many more, I also participated and led in some community-based rehabilitation where we organise fall prevention classes for the elderly, health promotion education to school and market, and also participation in occupational health safety programs. My occupational health safety knowledge was from one of the continuous professional development program I attended and it has really been useful in this practice delivery.

As a Physiotherapist in Fortune Physiotherapy Clinic, I became more independent in managing patients and more passionate about care of the elderly patients in intermediate care unit when one of my job descriptions was to deliver home-based rehabilitation service to elderly patients who are at risk of admission and still need rehabilitation programs to improve their independence. Driving to patient house also helped me to perfect my driving skills and I was able to drive perfectly, likewise working as a lone-worker in the community helped me to work autonomously and develop a problem solving and initiatives skills to improvised treatments within the comfort of my patients house which really help them to increase their community participation. I also became more organized with the use of my time-management skills by prioritizing my patient caseloads, delegating duties accordingly and managing my appointments properly, this really helped me to be able to cope under work pressure and time constraints. I was also able to work in alliance with other professionals consulting for the clinic such as nurses, occupational therapist, physician consultant, neurologist, social worker and relative of the patients, this approach also encourage my team work spirit by enhancing multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary and holistic approach to patient care and build my relationship skills with them all.
